Reader's Theatre Reader's Theatre

Once again we are including our Reader's Theatre as part of our season. If you are a season membership/ticket holder this is included in your season membership/ticket at no addition cost.

Reader's theatre is a style of theatre in which the actors do not memorize their lines. Rather, they either go through their blocking holding scripts and reading off their lines, or else sit/stand together on a stage and read through the script together. In Reader's Theatre, actors use vocal expression to help the audience understand the story rather than visual storytelling such as sets, costumes, and intricate blocking.
Like storytelling, Reader's Theatre can create images by suggestion that could never be realistically portrayed on stage. Space and time can be shrunk or stretched, fantastic worlds can be created, marvelous journeys can be enacted. Reader's Theatre frees the performers and the audience from the physical limitations of conventional theater, letting the imagination soar.

Mustang Sally tackles the timely and sensitive topic of female teachers who have sex with their underage students, justice, and double standards. As the play begins, the affair between Sal, a 13-year old male middle school student, and his 31-year old teacher, Kathy, has already been discovered. Kathy's older, successful and high-powered, commitment phobic sister Elizabeth, steps forward to take charge and help. She quickly enlists the aid of one of her suitors, a divorced male attorney, Edward. Elizabeth attempts to solve Kathy's problems while also trying to navigate her own life, and curb her religiously fanatic mothers destructive behavior. Along the way, deep family issues are uncovered, the result being an involving and insightful drama that provides food for thought about serious subjects.

An Evening of Humorous Short Stories

The Oregon Community Theatre is pleased to present An Evening of Humorous Short Stories. Join us as we take a light hearted look back at the evolution of our society beginning from the first known interpersonal conflicts with Excerpts From the Diaries of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain, to more modern social differences with The Integrators, and more. We'll also read one or two letters to home from travelers out of their social comfort zone. Yes, this is a family friendly show, so tell all of your friends.
